John Terry set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season
Chelsea fans were left in shock with the news that John Terry will leaving the club at the end of the season after 18 seasons with the club.
After Sunday’s 5-1 win against MK Dons John Terry confirmed that as it stands he will not be having his contract with Chelsea renewed.
The Mirror stated, “It’s not going to be a fairytale ending, I’m not going to retire at Chelsea. It’s going to be elsewhere which it took me a couple of days to get over. But, I knew before the Arsenal game and my performance isn’t going to change – the way I train, what I give for the club. I want to give everything and finish on a high.”
Whilst he might not be liked by most fans in the Premier League he is loved by his club’s fans who have watch him become Chelsea’s most successful captain 0f all-time.
It’s really sad that he will not be able to finish his career at the club where he came through the youth ranks and has made over 650 appearances for the club.
At Chelsea he has won an incredible four league titles, five FA Cups, three league cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.
Fellow Premier League player, Charlie Adam was quoted on his Twitter account stating: “John terry gonna be huge loss too Chelsea.”
It was back in 2000 when John Terry scored his first goal in the FA Cup – it came in the club’s victory against Gillingham. On the day the other scorers were Tore-Andre Flo, George Weah, Gianfranco Zola and Jody Morris.
There are only four other players who have appeared more times than JT has for one single club in the Premier League. That includes United legend Ryan Giggs 632, Liverpool pair Jamie Carragher 508 and Steven Gerrard 504, Paul Scholes 499, and then it’s Terry 477.
He holds the record at the top scoring Premier League defender with 40 goals. Then it’s David Unsworth 38, Ian Harte 28, Leighton Baines 26 and former teammate William Gallas with 25.
It is expected that like Gerrard and Carragher, you can’t see John Terry playing for anyone else in England other than Chelsea which means his most likely destination is the US.
It’s incredible to think that he’s been at the club for 18 years – a true Chelsea legend.
