Jurgen Klopp is a perfect fit for Liverpool, says club legend Kenny Dalglish

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish insists that Jurgen Klopp is the right man to continue taking the club forward, despite their indifferent start to the season.

The Reds face bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon knowing that a defeat would see them trail Jose Mourinho’s side by 10 points after just eight games.

Liverpool have already drawn three and lost once in the Premier League. This is coupled with having drawn their opening two Champions League games and being dumped out of the Carabao Cup already this campaign.

However, irrespective of their early season struggles Dalglish has every faith in their German manager.

‘Everything, I think he’s a perfect fit for the football club. I think he can relate brilliantly to the fans and the fans can relate to him,’ he said on behalf of BetStars.

‘I think we’re moving forwards and upwards since he’s come in. He may be criticised for the goals he concedes but his philosophy has always to score more goals than the opposition so I think that’s what the fans want to see. ‘

‘Obviously they want to see good defending work as well. Last year, they had a very good record against the top teams and tailed a wee bit against the other teams.

‘Between now and May I think there will be a lot more smiles than there will be disappointments.’

Liverpool haven’t won a trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2012 but Dalglish believes their long wait for silverware could end this season with the charismatic Klopp.

‘We got close last year. We cannot get much closer than losing in a final, but I think the [big] picture will be the Premier League,’ he added.

‘They finished fourth so I think they’ll be expecting to finish a bit higher this year. United and City are both stronger this year than they were last year so that is a bit unfortunate.

‘Chelsea got off to a bad start, losing their first game at home, but they’ve picked up and they’re strong and Tottenham are also looking strong.

‘So it’s going to be a difficult task to get higher than fourth but hopefully they can do it and I think they’ve got the best person in charge to do that.’
