Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Arda Turan give Barcelona a great start
Luis Suarez’s incredible run of form continued as he scored a hat-trick in Barcelona’s 6-2 hammering of Real Betis.
The Uruguayan has now scored an impressive 17 goals in his last six games – his final tally for last season when he finished the league’s top scorer was 40 goals.
Arda Turan got Barcelona’s first from close range but Ruben Castro equalised from with a free-kick.
Talisman Lionel Messi made it 2-1 with excellent strike from distance.
The ex-Liverpool striker got his first and the team’s third with strike from the edge of the box.
He then got a fourth before Messi’s got his second which was Barca’s fifth and then Suarez completed his hat-trick and gave the Catalan team their sixth.
Castro did mange to get one more for Betis but it was just consolation.
This was their third competitive game of the season having beaten Sevilla 2-0 and 3-0 in the Spanish Super Cup.
Suarez’s lengthly ban for biting is long forgotten – he has shown why Barca spent so much money signing him.
He scored 14 goals in their final five games of the season including all three goals in their final match of season when they beat Granada 3-0.
These were key wins as had they dropped any points then rivals Real Madrid would have won the league.
Following the victory it was confirmed that an agreement has been made with Manchester City for Claudio Bravo to move to the Premier League side – should the deal be completed then he could see Joe Hart leave before the end of the transfer window.
