Newcastle United continue their busy January transfer window as they have made a £21m offer for striker Saido Berahino.

Over the last month the Geordies have already signed Jonjo Shelvey, Andros Townsend and Henri Saivet.

Berahino caused controversy last August after his prospective move to Spurs was blocked.

At the time he implied he would not play for Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace again after not getting his move.

Since then his head has not been right and has only featured 20 times this season.

The youngster enjoyed a rare start in their FA Cup against Peterborough where ironically he scored twice!

This season he has managed to score six times – two key goals were against Aston Villa and Sunderland as they gave his team 1-0 wins over both sides.

Last season he scored an impressive 20 goals in 45 games despite only scoring twice from March until the end of the season.

After the game against Peterborough manager Pulis said: ”There’s two more days to wait, the chairman will make the decisions on the financial matters and that’s really what it boils down to.

“I think football-wise, everyone would want to keep Saido here. When you put Saido in front of goal, he’s a goalscorer.

“But we need to get him fit because he’s not fully fit.”

One issue is that West Brom are unlikely to want to sell to someone below them – Newcastle are just seven points behind West Brom.

The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday, 1 February, meaning that if the Baggies do sell Berahino then it won’t leave much time for Pulis to replace him.
