Premier League transfer spending hits over £1bn this season!
Premier League clubs have spent in excess of £1bn in transfer fees in a single season for the first time ever.
The record had been last season when £965m was spent.
Newcastle having signed Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend for £12m each already this month.
The record amount spent in a January window was the £225m spent in 2011 when Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll signed for Liverpool and Fernando Torres joined Chelsea. The Blues also signed David Luiz for £26.5m from Benfica.
In the last two windows English top-flight clubs have collectively spent £130m
The 2016 January transfer window is set to close tonight at 23:00 GMT and like every year it is expected to be a busy day.
It will be interesting to see if we get near the £225 figure with Chelsea and Manchester City possibly in the business to buy buy buy!!!
