Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata give Jose Mourinho a winning start
Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata gave Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United a 3-1 winning start to the their new campaign.
After two disappointing seasons under Louis van Gaal and David Moyles has left United’s fans feeling very frustrated.
Since 2002/03 Mourinho has won eight league titles in four different countries including three Premier League titles with Chelsea which is why he is seen by many as the man to bring glory back to the red side of Manchester.
Last week the Red Devils won their Community Shield match against Leicester City and seven days on they picked up their first three points with a good 3-1 away win on the South Coast.
Mourinho is likely to be disappointed with conceding Adam Smith’s goal but other than that it was a very solid display from United.
A week ago Juan Mata was controversially substituted after coming on a substitute – this led to a week of paper talk about the Spaniard’s future but he looked happy especially after he scored the opening goal.
Rooney made it 2-0 with a second-half header and then Ibrahimovic scored, on his league debut, to make it 3-0.
Smith scored a good goal but it was just a consolation for the home team.
In the next match Mourinho is likely to welcome world-record sigining Paul Pogba into the starting XI.
